Our work is focused around providing support to clients and partners. We have extensive experience supporting projects in a wide variety of sectors.

Supporting Research

Our team has been providing research methods, data management and statistical support for scientific research for many decades. Our team is equipped to provide expert advice at all stages of the research process, from planning your overall study objectives to drawing valid conclusions from your data.

We have experience supporting research in some of the most complex environments in the world. We understand that finding a statistically significant p-value is not enough any more. In order to draw conclusions of practical and scientific importance one must have a deep understanding of the data and the overall context of the study. We work to help our partners gain this rich understanding and help them draw useful conclusions from their work.

Our largest example of this work is our partnership with the Collaborative Crop Research Program (CCRP). For more information on our work with them, see below.

Working With CCRP

Supporting Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of Humanitarian Programmes

We provide statistical support for M&E of international development programmes by providing inputs throughout the data chain. We focus on:

  • Development of monitoring and evaluation strategies
  • Efficient sampling design
  • Survey instrument design with inbuilt quality assurance
  • In-country and remote training and support for fieldwork teams
  • Effective data collection and processing, including technical support for use of popular tools (e.g. Open Data Kit) and database management.
  • Data analysis / statistics using a wide variety of methods and software.
  • Targeted information products - reports, dashboards and mobile applications.

Supporting Capacity building

Capacity building is central to the objectives of Stats4SD. Our team members are committed to supporting it as part of our contribution to international development. As part of this, in 2007 we decided to share all our training resources as Open Educational Resources under a Creative Commons licence.

Many of these resources can now be found on our resources page.

We have a long history of working with partners to develop online training for university and institutional capacity building. This includes our Statistics in Applied Climatology (eSIAC) course developed for Met Services in developing countries, which has been sponsored by WMO and the UK Met Service on different occasions.

We also helped develop the Datatree training course for environmental researchers, providing both elearning development and subject-matter expertise to support the Institute for Environmental Analytics (IEA) at the University of Reading.
